Question:

Advice for Leg Ache & Hip Pain (Steriods?)?

About a week ago I got a steroid injection in my hip for Brusitis, and it was sore for a few days but now i've been having this acheing sensation that started about 3 days ago at the thigh of my right leg and my right hip and has progressed into my other leg and calves. It's a throbbing and painful feeling and it's gotten to where i can't sleep at night because of discomfort. I've tried stretching, walking, icy hot, but the only relief i get is when walking and it's temporary and it comes right back.

What could be causing all this? Maybe the steroid?

  1. It sounds like you had a cortisone injection which is a steroid shot.  Sometimes the cortisone will crystallize and cause pain worse than before the shot. But this lasts about 1 to 2 days.  You might be having a flare up of bursitis.  And if one injection didn't help, 2 or 3 won't either.  Bursitis is usually treated with non-steroidal drugs such as Advil or Motrin. Try applying heat to your hip for no longer than 20 minutes. If your pain started after the shot, your hip is probably inflamed so much that the pain is radiating to your legs. Your best bet is to see your doctor again or at least call him and explain what is happening to you. You shouldn't have to live with this pain.  I've had many steroid shots and they were never painful afterwards.  But you know, every BODY is different.

  2. ~ Hi ~! I'm very sorry about the discomfort you're experiencing. At this point all I can recommend is contact the Doctor that gave you the injection and see what he/she recommends. It seems horrible to have to live with so much discomfort after an injection that was supposed to help you. =(

I wish I could be more. I hope you get relief very soon.
