Advice for a bonfire?

I'm thinking of holding a bonfire as a benefit. Does anyone have any advice?

like where to have it at?

what I need?

stuff like that?

well in a fairly open field to start with,lots of wood,if you can get your hands on some skids or pallets that would help..lots of beer.kegs if you want,charge an admission..

It's not a bonfire without toffee and baked potatoes.

Parkin is an old favourite from England, (a soft gingerbread).

Your local hall may hire out benches, and hay bales (away from the bonfire) for tables.

Have a neat bonfire.

I went to a very fun, successful bonfire last summer and here are some things that truly helped make it great:

1) Extra lighting--people don't want to stand in one clump all night, next to a huge fire, but when you walk away from the bonfire it is usually pitch black; make sure you set up some additional light sources around the perimeter of your area

2) Smores--I'm not kidding. This was an adults-only affair and the highlight for everyone was definitely making smores. Just put out some (cleaned and whittled) sticks or skewers, pieces of chocolate, graham crackers, marshmallows, paper plates, and napkins and let everyone dig in.

3) A few strategically placed coolers with drinks

4) Chairs--again, everyone loves standing by the bonfire, for a while.

As for where to have it, the one I attended was at a private community beach, which was a fantastic setting.

...be careful, where i am from there is a really strict burn ban on...

Have hot dog wienies and allow the guests to "cook their own food"  you can also have marshmallows to make smores! have plenty of drinks, its hot outside and a fire will make it hotter, lots of chairs and condiments.  you should have it in an open field and somehow make a wall where the fire can't et out. Use rocks to make a circle, put the wood in the middle and light it up!

** you could have fireworks too!

Depending on where you live... check with your cities open fire policy. Then inform the local fire department of where you are having the event.

Places to have the bonfire would be on a beach or some place with little to no tall grass.

What you need is plenty of chairs/wood/beverages/food.

It's also good to bring a few blankets/towels/music and maybe like a football/volleyball depending on where it's at.

Also don't forget to send out invitations and inform people about what the benefit is about.

Take a water hose and SOAK the ground around the fire area. This should prevent the fire spreading. Also put one person in charge of any drunk idiots to keep them from throwing alcohol into the fire.
