In october I'll be starting as an undergrad studying business at trinity college dublin. I'm from california, and although I've been to dublin a few times before, I was hoping to get some advice on university life/things to avoid/best places to go out etc. Just anything you would have wanted to know back when you were a fresher!!! thanks

  1. well for a start, you wont be called a fresher! you'll be in first year business in trinity!  we just use years as labels! you wont have any problem with where to go out etc as Trinity is right in the centre of town, i think a lot of trinners go to Doyles around the corner and then to a club later probably around Stephen's green or the Camden/Wexford/Harcourt street area. Most irish students dont go out in Temple Bar as its full of tourists, although there are a few pubs that are good! If your not living on campus try to stay south of the river cause its a lot nicer and possibly safer. However some areas on the northside are fine, just ask someone before you commit!

  2. claire t is wrong! We do call first years freshmen - or freshers for short!. Trinity is a brill college (im a senior frehman at the moment.) There are so many activities you can get involved in - there are clubs to suit all tastes, and it's really easy to get to know people. My advice to you would be to get over here, and go with the flow! There is always tons of college nights out! If you are gonna be living on/near campus, then you'll always have someone to hang out with.

My advice wuld be not to do what I did (joined every club during freshers week cuz they gave out free stuff, and then never go to any meetings!) Join a couple of ones that interest you, and go to their meetings! Its a nice way to get to know people. Oh, and go to lectures. Its worth it!

Hope you enjoy Ireland and Trinity - I know I do!
