Advice for buying plane/hotel package

Could some one tell me where I could find the best deal on airfare and a hotel to Kyoto Japan. Also I would like to know the best time of year to travel there (best rate).

I tend to favor shoulder seasons (the times between high and low tourist seasons when you tend to be able to get good prices and good weather). Japan's shoulder season runs from April to mid-June, and then from mid-September to December. There's also this key information: "Hotels in Kyoto are at their peak during Gion Matsuri, as well as cherry blossom season (the first week in April) and leaf-peeping season (the second week in November)."
