Question:

Advice for freshman?

In a week, I'm starting high school. I've heard alot of rumors, that high school is horrible if you aren't in the "popular" group. I don't want my experience to be horrible, but I can't join sports (I forgot to sign up!), and I doubt I'll be invited to these parties. I want to make new friends, and have fun outside of school. Any advice?

  2. If you want people to like you, don't complain... Don't be super hyper or super somber. Join a sports team later in the spring or winter or club where you feel you know the area like basketball or drama club. Then make friends with people. Upperclassmen is ok to make friends with. Act mature, like not talking about unicorns or pollypockets.

Don't brag that you went to party's or w/e. Just try not to act cool. High School isn't all its cracked up to be. You don't have to be popular, just find a good group of friends, find your style, and be nice to people. Its all that matters. Nobody throws you in a trashcan like you see in the movies.

  3. Hi!

I'm Andrea, a senior in High School! :)

Well you can start by going to the school site, most high schools have a virtual map so you familiarize yourself with the school and its guidelines!

    About getting lost:

You will, the 2-3 days.. Just request a map the 1st day of school, or visit the campus a couple days before!

On the brightside, most teachers are in front of their door the first couple days of schools, so you can just ask the teachers, even the students.

    Academic Advice:

DON'T PROCRASTINATE & KEEP AN AGENDA.

    Always do you homework!!

Keep up your GPA, as it will be your base your freshmen year..

Be organized and manage your time wisely..

Social Skills= Avoid eating in the cafeteria, unless for some reason it's cool at your school.

MAKE FRIENDS. Be friendly and smile often! :)

    Don't be rude, or disrespectful.

Get in good with the teachers, they will grade you easily and you can be the teacher's pet!

    Avoid shady scenes [parties].

    Don't wear a rolly bookbag..

A simple jansport bookbag, or a tote bag for girls is fine!

Take lunch the 1st couple of days as it will help you get the feel of things since the lines will be long and you won't know the prices and procedures..

NOT IN A LUNCHBOX THOUGH, in a simple bag inside your book bag :)

Make friends early on, as they will give you moral support!!

Join clubs to meet people and sports.

This looks extremely well in college applications :)

    Most of all, HAVE FUN...

Time will go by faster than you think..

    Be Well! :)

  4. quit worrying so much and stop watching so many stupid movies

  5. I have advice because I went through this same though process last year in my head.

When you are in school, since everyone in your classes is going to be a freshman (unless if you are in electives and so forth where you might have upperclassmen) then your classmates are all probably going to be a little shy and timid at first too. Be confident without being egotistical. You know yourself better than anyone and you know how awesome you are. Try to make conversations with people around you and you'll be fine. It is my advice that you try joining clubs that your school might have so that in these clubs you can meet even more people and have a better over all experience-- don't be scared if things are awkward the first days of class, they always are!

Now one last thing: what you described (parties i mean) is quite true, there are parties, but they aren't ever week. They rarely happen every month (unless if you know, i mean REALLY know, a good amount of people). Don't fall for the high school experience you've seen on TV and in the movies, it isn't really like that.

Hope that helped, have fun this year freshie!!

  6. well dont worry i just was in that situation and i didnt sign up for sports it was hard not noing if you were going to get ecepted but then i realized the only person i need to be accepted by was jesus and belive me if your just a little bit outgoing than in class you just make lite of everthing and then class will be fun and so if yu dont go to parties so what have your own then they will come to you and they will want to invite
