Im 17, unemployed and a high school drop out. As a last resort to getting away from all the stress at home i want to try and move out into a flat or something.

I have had depression for the last few years (thus the reason for leaving school and not getting a job) which is caused from family trouble. I have tried counsilling, doctors, phsyciatrists, but nothing is working becuase my mum refuses to leave my abusive step parent.

Im not sure how it is possible to leave home and was hoping someone could give me some advice for leaving an abusive home.

  1. go find a job so you can have an income.  it's good to have two jobs. one in the mornings and then one in the afternoons/evenings. You may be working a lot but in way it will be nice to be away from all of the drama at home and to make some friends.

Save the money you earn for a deposit, two months rent, and an electricity bill.  search for the best most affordable thing you can find even if it seems to suck a little.  once you are on your feet you can start planning and preparing for something better.  (That is basically the final line in what you need to do.)

contact local shelters. they might be able to help you with transitional housing or funding for moving in.  also they have support groups and it's a good place to talk about what is going on in the home that has caused a lot of those problems.  They might be able to help with your emotional problems and it is free.

Bonus advice: if you are going to be independent you might need a roommate but you have to be careful and screen them. Talk to some friends and make contacts for emergencies.  It is good to be single for a while  (at least 6 months to a year).  I recommend that you get your GRE as soon as you can.  If you do that you wont have that hanging over your head making you feel like bad and it is better for you financially. Once you've done it go to the local community college and look into  financial aid and classes and degree programs.

Everything will be ok.  Here's an outline.  1.  contact shelters and go talk to someone there.  2. Get a job (or two).  3. Save money.  4. Find a place (or roommate but screen them).  5. Get on your feet.  6.  Get your GRE 7. Go to community college and look into classes and get information about that.

It may be challenging but it is not actually that hard.  You can do it.

  2. your not with the right kind of people you know that

look at your options, ok so your not working, at 17

find out if there a social assistance programs that

can assist you financially at this time to get your own

    flat, room.

In addition, another option is to speak with a Registered

Social Worker for some help with finding funds, moving,

    and so on.

You've had enough of seeing and hearing fights, I shall

keep you in my prayers.  Ask God to help you, he will.

  3. dont leave, its harder than you think... get help, call the police, deal with home. dont let depression be an excuse, you can identify the problem... so fix it.
