Advice for male members of the Augusta National Golf Club
In a historic move, two women golfers have been given membership of the all-men Augusta National Golf Club. Lately, some advice for the male members of the club has been floating around the news websites.
The first bit of advice is about the women’s tees. This is an important point where men and women golfers usually differ. For women golfers, tee should point in the correct direction so that they can tee off straight.
Another tee related point is the placement of tees. No male member should ever point out the forward placement of the tee to a lady golfer.
There is nothing that infuriates a female more and often women golfers go for men’s tee. This is an embarrassing position for the male golfers.
Golf balls have a tendency of getting lost in and around the golf course. For an all-men club like the Augusta National, this is no big deal. Men usually just hunt around the woods for the ball. In contrast, women golfers usually do not go around looking
for the golf balls.
In a mixed gender golf club, usually the male members do the courtesy of finding the golf balls. On a related note, no women golfer likes being teased about lost balls. The male patrons of the Augusta National will have to do the honours of finding the balls.
The pet peeve of many women golfers is the patronizing behaviour of the male golfers. Augusta National members will have to hold their tongues in the presence of the two very powerful women who have recently joined the club.
Golf buggies are another issue that is stressed tremendously these days. Normal rules of golf etiquette demand that women should be allowed to drive the buggy.
The men at the Augusta National have to be very careful while driving the buggies on the golf course.
The two women, Condoleezza Rice and Darla Moore, have made history by becoming the first ever women members of the prestigious Augusta National Golf Club. What remains to be seen is the fact whether more women will be admitted to the club or not.
