Advice for on the airplane?

I have to travel on the 24th..I love airplane rides but the turbulence makes me feel pretty sick...is there something I can do for this? I do have prescription motion sickness pills but they didn't do the trick last time..I didn't throw up, but I felt really yucky.

Please also give any advice on calming myself..I get worked up with anxiety when the turbulence starts.

When the plane is nice and leveled out I'm able to read/listen to music

  1. I have the same problem, and I tend to take medication I know makes me a lil sleepy before I fly. Is there anything harmless you know that makes you drowsy but not so bad you pass out? It helps me, but it's all up to you.

A friend recently told me to suck on peppermint candy and stop reading any time there's a tiny bit of turbulence. I haven't had a chance to try it during flight yet, but I know peppermint helps my stomach settle, anyway. As for the reading during bumps, your eyes take the tiny movements and translates them into larger, causing more motion sickness. Focus on things farther away to avoid this problem.

One great way to release tension during the flight is to tighten all of your muscles, then once you know every single one is tight, let  your entire body relax. It helps relieve tension in muscles you tend to have problems with and is great if your body tenses up during those nasty bumps.

    Hope this helps, good luck!

  2. Pray you don't crash.

Nah, really--you should breathe deeply and try to relax every muscle in your body.  Just let them go limp.  Usually gets me pretty calm.

You're supposed to be nervous when there's turbulence.  You could very well die if that plane falls out of the sky.  Or get stranded on a haunted island--a la Lost.

  3. I have the same issue-the motion sickness pills usually just help me with the stomach so I don't throw up, but I do still feel yucky.

For the anxiety, you KNOW that you're going to survie- you're here to tell us about it, and just mentally prepare yourself. I like to chew gum the whole time, it helps me with the takeoff, landing, and also distract myself from the turbulence. The rhymic chewing helps me-don't ask why. xD

Hope you have fun on your trip!
