I'm in first year of a primary education course at uni and tomorrow I've got my first prac activity - teaching a small group for literacy. I've already got the book and an activity - drawing/writing, but I wanted some general advice for teaching 7 year olds and jsut dealing with them when you're a first year student?

  1. It is so fun to teach literacy to that age group.  As a Literacy teacher I would suggest that building prior knowledge is really important at this age.  So lots of pre-reading discussion and predicting to engage the students.  Some students will constantly look to you for approval because they are still building confidence like is that right word or did I say that right...  Ask questions that have the students go back to the book and questions that are more than yes or no

    So good luck !!!
