i noticed a lump on my 2 yr olds belly button, which seems to be irrating her as she pulls it and the skin goes really long. i took her to see the health visitor and a doctor who have both said it is a skin tag. they recommend having it removed but cant do it for a couple of years due to her age. does anyone know if it is harmful? and has anyone's children got them? thanks

  1. They aren't harmful at all...its just extra skin. May people have them.

  2. My brother had one and they are not harmful. It's just an extra bit of skin.

Try putting a plaster over it to stop her fiddling with it.

  3. these are not harmfull at all my younger sister has lots of them but mostly on her scalp which is horrible for her because everytime she has her hair cut the hairdresser thinks they are hear lice which is utterly stupid.....my daughter also has a couple but they dont bother her at all so i am not worried about getting them removed...since i have been pregnant i have had a few appear on my chest i would worry to much about t hem unless they are distressing you daughter i would leave them be

  4. skin tags are usually harmless unless they are in an area where clothes can rub against them and irritate them...they are hereditary..my mom had them I have some and my 3 year old was born with one right outside of her ear...it doesn't bother her though..she doesn't even acknowledge it...lol...but maybe if your daughter doesn't pull on it...then it won't bother her....good luck...hope this helps..

  5. my husband has a couple of them underneath his armpit, hes never talked about getting them removed and i dont think it has ever bothered him, its not like they are on her face of anything so i woudnt bother, let her  make her own mind up when shes bigger .
