Question:

Advice on a dermal anchor lip ?

I have a stud lip piercing on the ride side of my lower lip and i want to get another one right next to it with a small diamond stud. A friend suggested I get a dermal anchor instead of a piercing to prevent corrosion on my teeth or gums from the jewlery. Just wondering if anyone knows much about dermal anchors in that area and how they turn out. Thanks.

  1. If a lip piercing is placed well, you shouldn't have any tooth or gum damage. There's no reason for a dermal anchor there, as the piercing can easily go straight through.  It is a high movement area and would very likely reject an anchor. Plus, if you even take it out, a piercing will just leave at most a small scar where the hole is. And anchor will either reject over time or have to be cut out, leaving a much bigger scar. I wouldn't use it there. It wouldn't have any benefit over a well placed regular piercing and in fact might do more harm over time.

  2. i have had my lip pierced for five years and had no dental damage.. and yes i go for a check up every six months..

    dermal anchors are pritty neat..
