Advice on budget hotels in Manhattan?

Question

I am travelling to Manhattan for a wedding, the reception will be near Times Square so I would prefer to stay there. There is such a difference in prices and reviews show that cheap sometimes means nasty - I will have around £600 to spend for five nights for two of us on accomodation.

Can anyone recommend a good place to stay

Alternatively is it safe to take up the offer of a place on Craigslist?

My 2 sons are off to New York in a couple of weeks and really struggled to find decent budget accommodation.  They ended up paying $1601  (£872) for just 4 nights with continental breakfast.  They left it fairly late to book, but it was no easy, or cheap, task.  Good Luck - I hope you get sorted out.

My friend, may I recommend the link below. It list hotels in the area that is close to your price range. May I warn you that the prices are in US Dollars, so a crank out the calculator to convert the USD to the GBP.

You should checkout Hotels.com and any other travel website to check on prices.Priceline.com and hotwire you sould checkout also.Manhattan is not cheap anyway you look at it.

I have known people who have successfully used Craig's list, just be careful.

I have heard good things about the Larchmont Hotel in Greenwich Village (Manhattan). http://www.larchmonthotel.com/

What you might like about that is that a little bit west of there is an enclave of Brits.
