I'm 14 weeks pregnant and have gotten an early start on buying baby items. This is my first and so I'm excited and it's nice to shop for something new! My question was how soon should I start stocking up on diapers? Do they get old? Also. How many packs of each size. I want to have up to size 3's before the baby gets here!

serious answers only. thanks

  1. That question is hard to answer because it very much depends on your baby. Only buy one or two packs of newborn diapers. They are nice for the umbilical cord opening. Then it depends on you baby. My son is nine months almost ten months old and is very small. He would still fit into size two diapers but he is crawling and it just don't work anymore. My nephew went into size three diapers at two months. He wasn't the weight on them but his thighs were so big that size two just didn't fit. So I don't know what to tell you.  KEEP ALL RECIEPTS (tape it to them) and most stores will take them back.

  2. I would have to agree about the newborns.  My daughter was in newborns for a little over a week.  I would buy more 1-2's than size ones (if using pampers).  She is now 11 weeks and has been in size 1-2 for about a month.  A little bigger diaper may prevent the dreaded blowout.  I would be sure to buy them where you can exchange if she grows out of them. (Target receipts have an expiration)

    Happy shopping!!

  3. with the larger sizes in diapers its okay to buy in bulk. pampers and huggies sell them in boxes. the only ones u cant get in boxes are newborn diapers. its because they grow so fast. do the same with baby wipes. buy them by the box. it is a lot cheaper!

  4. Try cloth! You can buy a set of one-size pockets diapers and be set for as long as your baby is in diapers, without every having to buy another one. The cost savings is huge and it's better for baby!

Bumgenius makes a one-size adjustable diaper that will carry your baby from 8 -35 pounds. You can buy enough diapers to last if you are doing wash every two or three days for under $300. That's ONLY $300 until your baby is potty trained. Use cloth wipes and save even more money. Go with prefolds and covers and save even more.

http://www.cottonbabies.com is a good site to order from.

If you stick with disposables, buy a few packs of newborn size, about 12 packs of size 1 (80 count), and 12 packs of size 2 (70 count). You can go through roughly 10 diapers a day so count on about 70 diapers or 1 pack a week, estimated. They don't get old. Save reciepts - you can return an unopened pack for a bigger size if baby grows too fast.

  5. buy about 1 newborn, 2 size 1 2 size 2 2 size 3 and when you get to the 4's, baby will be in for a while. i am sure if you have a shower, then you will get a bunch of diapers. at the hospital, take the diapers out of the cart that they have the baby in when he/she comes to your room then you wont have to buy so many and they will refill. plus, if you buy too many small ones, you can always exchange them, just dont open the boxes yet.

  6. I did the same thing with my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th pregnancies!  My daughter is going to be 1 in a bout a week and I just bought the first pack of diapers post-delivery last week!  I just picked up a pack every time I went to the store while I was pregnant.  It's easier to spend the $10 or $20 that way then to have to find it when you have a baby to take care of!  :)

I think we went through 5 or 6 packs of newborns, about the same in 1's, and probably 10 in 2's.  Now we are in 3's.  Diapers don't get old, so have no worries there.  If you hang on to the reciepts (I taped them to the packages) you can usually exchange them for a different size later on if  your little one grows out of them too fast. (Wal-Mart is very nice about that)

I do suggest getting Newborn diapers even if you have a larger  baby that CAN get into 1's to start.  Newborns just fit those skinny little tummy's better.  my daughter was 8lb 4oz and I still had her in Newborns for a while.

    Congrats and best wishes!  :)

  7. you can never buy too many diapers! at my baby shower, i got about eight packs of size one diapers, and we went through ALL of them before she grew into a size two diaper. you'll be changing diapers all day long once the little one gets here. as long as you don't open them, they'll be fine if you start buying now. some diapers are scented, and may lose the baby powder scent if you open them too soon.

i started stocking up on everything once i found out what i was having. it made it easier to shop and pick out everything i needed too.

  8. Buy yourself some gift cards instead that are set aside JUST for diapers. There is no way to tell how long your baby will be in size ones or twos..etc...

I have one that is 28 months and JUST gone into size 4s and another that went into size 4s at 6 months.

For now just buy a pack or two of each, but dont go overboard or you may find that you spend a lot of time in the cusatomer service lines to get them exchanged anyhow.

  9. Well it depends on how big you baby is when born. My most recent was born 8lbs 6 oz and she wore NB diapers for probably the first 3 weeks and they are up to 10lbs. (i think we went through 200 diapers) Pampers i found to be a little smaller than Huggies though but go up really high. Size ones are 8-14 lbs so she could have been in those when she was born! but she is in those still and is 12 lbs now at 2 months. In the beginnig i think we used about 10 diapers a day..and maybe not its more like 6 or 7. The diapers wont go bad!! So the size 1's will probably fit through 3 months...

I did this too and haven't had to buy diapers yet SO nice. Plus as long as they are unopened i know Babies R  Us will return and exchange diapers, if you have too many of one size. But keep in mind if you are having a baby shower or people giving you gifts you might get more diapers there i did!!

  10. Diapers don't get old and you can never have too many!!  Maybe don't stock up on too many of the real tiny ones because babies grow pretty fast.

  11. I am 11 weeks and 4 days pregnant and I have already started stocking up! I am for sure going to have one package of each size on hand, and I'm sure we will get more as gifts. I am stocking up on huggies for newborn through size two, and luvs after that.

  12. i think its fine to go ahead and stock up. i wouldnt buy too many newborn size though. you never know how big your baby may be and might end up not using them. also, i believe babies are in a size 3 the longest,or so i have heard.
