Advice on buying skis.?

I want to buy skis.

I go about 5-6 days a year but my feet stopped growing. Renting is getting very expensive.

Would you wait until the end of the season and buy used skis, new skis better?

I'm also tiny, 5'0" and size 5.5 shoe...are kids skis not as good as adult skis? When I rent them, I usually get them on the shorter side.

  1. Rob's answer is great. Don't forget about e-bay. I have bought about 4 pair and only got 1 bad pair which I sent back. Fortunately I haven't gotten taken yet by dealing on e-bay.

  2. If you have a friend who knows something about skiing, I would start looking for some used skis. Depending on where you are, there are some great deals on craigslist, for a fraction of the price of new skis.  people are alway dumping good skis just because they want 'the latest', or they decided to stop skiing.

Just make sure you have someone who can look at the skis with you and determine they are in good shape. And be sure to have the bindings professionally adjusted after you get the skis.
