Question:

Advice on carpet color. :)?

I'm leaning toward a real pretty soft and light slate blue, I would call it a neutral blue, it isn't powder blue, it has a little silver in it. I have blue and brown in my living room, I love the combo. However, when I go to sell my house in a year or two I don't want my choice of carpet color to interfere with a potential buyer's decision. I love contrast. I'm stuck between the blue I like and a Raffia color which is kind of alabaster, which anything will go with....

"Thanks for your input." :)

  1. First of all, blue and brown is an incredibly popular color combo right now in the home, for decor and bedding and accessories - so you're right smack dab on target with that.

When I was in college, I was looking for a new place to live, and found a great fourplex - my only problem was the sea of blue carpet. But it was the only thumb-down aspect. It sounds like it was bluer than what you're talking about.

Anyway, after a lot of thinking, I went ahead and moved into the place. And once all of my furniture was in place, the carpet wasn't as vast a sea of blue as it looked when the place was empty. I actually didn't mind it much.

One option you do have is to go with a neutral (although your blue is pretty neutral, considering it would go with furniture that is brown, white or black!) and toss a big rug in the room that has that color.

    Anyway, here's a sneak peak at a blue-carpeted room...

  2. I think that the blue sounds lovely, and would be a nice contrast to your brown furniture.  I don't think that it would put someone off.  To be honest most people replace all the carpets anyway.

Re-reading your question, I can tell that you really really want the blue one and it sounds like someone else is trying to persuade you to go with the raffia coloured one...!

  3. dont put blue carpet in, no matter the shade... you will have a hard time selling the house and will have to lower the price.  Its not worth it, at least it wouldnt be to me.

  4. If you already know that you're going to be selling your house in the not-too-distant future, I'd go with a neutral carpet.

HOWEVER ... you can use a blue area rug (on top of the carpeting) to get your 'fix' of color in the space.  Also, the area rug will move with you!
