Question:

Advice on colors and centerpiece ideas...?

My wedding colors are midnight blue with silver accents and due to the color scheme of our reception hall I would really like to stick with these colors. Instead of wedding cake we are making homemade apple pie and were going to use them as the table centerpiece. I work part time at an apple orchard where apples are free and we have an oven that will bake like 9 pies at a time. My boss has offered to bake everything and get the pies to the reception hall the day of the wedding. I found a tool that will remove the middle of an apple so that you can put a tea light in the center. I was thinking about placing the pies in the center of the table and then putting a few of the "apple candles" around each pie. My question is, with the colors of blue and silver, would this centerpiece look alright? Any other ideas would be appreciated.

  1. Hmmm...I think as long as the apple candles are pure red (very little green) you'll be OK.

  2. As long as you don't expect the guests to eat the apples with the tealights in (and why would you once they've had a candle in) then why not spray them silver?

  3. Maybe you could have the pie sitting on some kind of silver stand?

You could have silver and/or blue ribbons on the apple candles somehow.

I also liked the suggestion of spraying the apples silver.

In any case, I think it's a really unique centerpiece idea.

  4. My wedding colors were the same, but I used flowers:)  Your apple centerpiece idea sounds great.  You could use either bright red or green apples--either would add a splash of bright color and help with your theme. Good luck!

  5. I just had a vision in my head when I thought about this.  I thought about a couple of fairy tales about enchanted forests I had read as a child.  The forests had gold and silver trees with the same colored fruit.  What you could do since your colors are midnight blue and silver are to spray paint them silver or silver glitter them and place the tealights in the center.

I hope that helps!  Good luck!

  6. I think its a really unique, great idea that really incorporates a part of your lives in a special way. I think in order for this idea to come off really well you need to definatly raise up the apple pie in the center so that the apples around it don't take away from it.  I also really like the idea of spray painting the apples silver - it really will help tie in the whole theme I think.  I think you could still even leave some of the apples unsprayed so that there still is a dash of the natural apple.  Cool idea with the pies instead of the cake!

  7. Hi and congratulations!

I'm sorry, but I'm confused.  In your first sentence you say that you want to stay in the color scheme of blue and silver, but then you have the apple pie and apple candle idea for centerpieces.  Seems like you have already decided to drift away from your chosen color scheme.

If you want the pies and apple candles, then you should have them and not worry about the color scheme.

If you want and are looking for other ideas.....here are mine:

~ If you want to be different and serve apple pie and ice cream (yummy!!) for the dessert instead of a cake....that is YOUR choice!  However, I would NOT have the pies as a centerpiece idea (just my opinion).  Instead, I would have a variety of them placed on stands (as you would a cake) and have them on a "dessert table" with the apple candles around them.

~ For your centerpieces.....why not simply use a vase/bowl like this:

Add in a variety of "vase gems" in various "blues" like these:

and then float candles in them:

Put it all on a mirror tile for added shine and more silver:

They also sell mirrors at Walmart, Michaels, and even Dollar Tree!

    Hope this helps.

  8. yes i think it would look neat!

(i hope you know your guests will think you're going for an 'american pride' look)

but i think it would look really neat!

  9. As far as the colors go I don't think they would match. Honestly. But I like your idea of the centerpieces... very different and interesting...... how about putting regular tealights, maybe in small blue vases of the sort.... that will probably match better then the green or red apples. good luck.

  10. I don't think it will turn out too well... the apples won't match and if you are leaveing pies on the tables then you also have to leave plates there wich will overcroud the table, and a knife.. which is ok if you don't expect andone to be drunk by the end of the night... it's really more convienient if someone serves the pie...

You could set up a table and display the pies nicely and use your colors for the centerpeices.

get tall translucent blue glass pillar candel holders and use silver paint to decorate the outside maybe like a night sky the candel light will shine through it nicely.
