Question:

Advice on female contraception?

I am trying to find out more about different types of contraceptive pill, injections, implants & IUD's. I know the medical and pharmaceutical jargon as that is my line of work. However, I am looking to find out more about how other women have liked/disliked their choosen method(s).

I have used cilest, microgynon & femodene pills before. At the moment my husband and I are using condoms but we both don't like them. We have 2 kids and in disagreement about having another so sterilisation isn't an option for me at the moment (i want another).

Any personal experiences/warnings etc would be gratefully received!

  1. I have been on tricyclen lo for 2 1/2 years now and i like it. If i get PMS at all it's very mild, some months i don't have anything at all. My mother, who is menopausal, was on tricyclen lo for years as well but has recently switched to a patch and she finds that it keeps her hormones alot more stable, so she is happier with the patch.

  2. I absolutely could not take oral contraceptives, as they gave me horrible migraines.  I tried an IUD, but I bled constantly for 3 months and eventually asked my Dr. to remove it.  However, others I've known have no periods with IUDs and love them!

  3. I know it different for every woman, but from experience, Ortho Tricyclen Lo sucks.  The mood swings were awful.  I normally am a very patient person, not easily annoyed, but when I was on that pill, I was a total b****!  I was always mean to my hubby, and the thing was, I felt I couldn't control it, then I felt really bad about it after wards.  I wouldn't suggest it.
