Question:

Advice on having a cat bite?

So my mom's cat bit me last night and it broke the skin. Needless to say it bled alot and I made sure to wash it out very well and dump alot of peroxide on it. I looked up what to do in case of a cat or dog bite and it said to get a tetanus shot if you haven't had one in the last 5 years. Normal tetanus shots come 10 years apart, but it said if bit you should go get one, and my 5 years was up on my tetanus shot about 6 months ago. Do you think I should go get a tetanus shot, or is it not that big of a deal?

  1. yup you should, just to be safe. you should also observe the cat for changes in behavior. also read about toxoplasmosis.

  2. Cat bits can be very serious.  You should go to the doc just to make sure.  You do not want it to get into your blood stream.. My mom owns a pet store and she is always getting bit by cats, mostly on the hands.  It will probably be red around the wound, but you need to watch that red spot because if it grows to much it is spreading to fast... People have actually died from cat bites.  I am not trying to scare you or anything, but I am trying to help you realize the severity of cat bites... Not something to take lightly.
