Hi, we just finished modern curriculum press level F, and I cannot find a G, though other subjects go up higher. We found Saxon "boring", and I am concerned about trying Singapore for the first time at this level. Anybody have any experience at this level with a curriculum?

  1. Mine is enjoying VideoText Algebra, it goes from Pre-Algebra through Algebra 2 in six "modules".  All lessons are interactive and taught by DVD, and everything is very concept based.

We also found Saxon boring (and confusing); we went from Saxon to Math U See (through Zeta, Percentages and Ratios), to VideoText.

Anyway, I highly recommend it, and all I know who have tried it had good things to say about it.

  2. Teaching Textbooks!  We love it.

  3. try abeka book you can also get dvds to go with it

  4. What level in math is your son? What is his learning style and Math Goals? Does he want to go into engineering one day or write poetry?

If you want a good Algebra program and he is great at Math and doesn't need a lot of help I highly recommend Jacobs Algebra.

If Math isn't your thing and you want a program that will teach him everything, along with explain every answer to every problem then teaching textbooks is the way to go.

If you want a complete, leave nothing at all out program (may seem boring but you will have it drilled into your brain forever and ever) use Saxon with the DIVE CD.

If you want instruction but don't need to have each problem worked out then use Chalkdust.

    Hope this helps some.

  5. http://www.homeschoolreviews.com is a good place to look. You can get an idea of what might or might not work for your kids from reading other people's reviews.

  6. I would strongly suggest aleks math online. They offer a 1 month free trial so you will be able to see if it is a good fit for your child.

Both of my sons standardized test score have improved dramatically since using the aleks program. My older son took the placement test at the community college after finishing  Alg 2 with ALEKs.

He was able to place into 5 different transferable math courses. At the time, he had just finished his sophomore year in high school and he doesn't particularly care for math as a subject. He doesn't mind using ALEKs because it makes math go much faster with less busy work.

    Best of Luck!
