  1. Practice shooting your shots much closer. Shoot about 5 to 7 foot hook shots.

Don't start your hook shots from the key until you start from the side of the basket.

Practice with your left hand thats how you become really good with your hook shot.

Take advantage of how close you are to the basket and be aggressive.

Pick all of your spots when you are practicing hook shots.

  2. Hi Kiley--

I find it best to practice shooting hook shots close to the basket at first.

Try not to stand with your shoulders square to the basket (don't stand facing the basket). If you shoot right handed, you'll want your left shoulder to be facing the basket. If you're a left-handed shooter, your right shoulder should be pointed toward the basket. ---I'll just assume that you're a right- handed shooter.

Practice your swooping motion with your arm and your timing of releasing the ball with a slight snap of the wrist at the end of your "swoop" :

If the ball goes just over your head and under the net ---- you're releasing too soon. If the ball goes sky-high and up over the rim ---you're releasing too late. If the ball goes straight up in the air with no arc ---- you're not bringing your shooting arm around enough toward your right ear.

It takes time and lots of practice (as you know) to get your rhythm and timing together, as you take a slight hop off of your left foot while your right foot is naturally off the ground (raise your right knee as you scoop and raise your right OUTSTRETCHED arm up and toward your right ear). You'll know what I mean, as you keep on practicing like you did at Camp.

Work on getting your timing down first.

Once you get the ball to hit the rim consistently ---you can work on your aim. Use the flick of your wrist combined with your arm motion to direct the ball. Actually PICTURE the ball and the arc of the ball as you hop on your left leg and elevate with your right knee. You don't need to jump up in the air ----but just take a slight HOP. Just let your arm and hand, be your guide.

Watch the Pros play. Watch guys and girls who are playing, and ask someone for tips and suggestions.

I hope this helps. I hope you had a blast at basketball camp ---keep on playin'  --
