am a temp and have been with my assignment for over a year. Technically my assignment now was only issued for 2 months, however the company ask to keep me longer the fact that they were short of staff. From last year I've moved up 3 position. I love my work now, and I love the people that I work with. My attendance is good, My skills are good and I hear nothing bad but good feedback. I'm a very hard worker, but isn't sure if I am allowed to ask for a raise. So far I've completed more than 1900 hours, and what I got out of that was a free week paid vacation. I'm sorry, that just isn't enough for me. I was even forced to find a second job to pay some of my bills and a little bit of cash left over for next week oxygen. I barley ask of anything through out my temp agency. I communicate more w/ my company than I do w/ my agency. I need a break..... Please help!!! Your advice is much appreciated =)=)=)!!!

  1. As you have been temping at this company for over a year, it would be quite in order to ask your boss (at the company) if they would be interested in taking you on in employment with them.  Say you like working with them, you enjoy the work, point out that you have moved up 3 positions and feel it would be to your mutual benefit.

You could also say you feel very settled with them and hope that they would view your request to work with them favourably.

Don't say this - but technically it is probably better for the company to employ you directly and not through the Agency.  They will be paying the Agency a fee, which the Agency then creams off, before paying you your salary.  If the company do take you on, then within a month or so you would be justified in asking for a small rise in pay.

Wishing you the best of luck.

  2. You can always ask, it never hurts.  I would focus more on trying to obtain a full time job, that is where you get standard raises.

  3. Maylee, why ask for a raise when you could ask for a permanent job instead??

Your company are paying your employers (the agency) a lot more than the agency in turn pay you...   Also your salary includes your holiday pay and sick pay so no-one has to give you any paid leave.

I did a bit of temping a few years ago, loved both of the jobs they found me but sadly neither turned out to be long term.. You have been more lucky so go for it girl!   Your salary will be much higher, you will get paid when sick and on holiday and maybe even qualify for a pension scheme.    GOOD LUCK!
