Advice on how to pierce my ear?

Question

Ok so i want to pierce my ear cartilage (upper bit, helix i think its called) and was just wondering if anyone has done it themselves and has some advice.

I don't have a proper needle or anything, but will it be ok if i just use a sewing needle or an earring?

I used an earring to pierce my ear lobes and everything went ok, no infections.

Your advice will be much appreciated.

(please don't rant at me about how i should go to a professional to get it done)

pierce it the way you want it
just not with an earring. i have like 12 piercings
that i did on my own with a sewing needle. kinda stupid but it worked for me,
cause, i couldnt find a "piercing" needle.
