Advice on makeup for me?

Question

My eyes are green/blue grey

Hair is violet

I wear mostly black or white with jeans of various blues

I have only worn mascara, eye shadow seems to go wrong. I've used brown, ochre and red brown (they came in a set given as a present). I don't like really heavy makeup (on me), but I want to make a subtle statement of some kind. Please help.

Okay since your hair is really colourful... i'd love to have violet hair! I think you need to go for simple, perhaps neutral shades. These will also go with your style of clothing.What is your skin tone like? You could perhaps use a little bronzer or blush on your cheekbones? If you want to make a statement you could try a subtle smokey eye? Use black eyeliner, black mascara, and blend together different shades of grey eyeshadow (see video link below). Try using a clear/nude lipgloss as well.

I don't think the problem is your eye color - but the combination of green/blue grey eyes and violet hair. Violet? If you're wanting a subtle statement, violet hair is probably not the way to go.  You don't mention your skin tone, whether you're fair or olive toned,etc.  If you have light eyes and violet hair, you're probably washing yourself out.  If you want bold hair, rather than violet you could go with an intense auburn or rich chocolate brown - either one would make your eyes really pop. Without the violet hair, your choice in eye shadows should lean toward plums with a brown undertone. Clinique has several, one is called Twiglet, also the darker shade in their duo called Victorian Pink...Twiglet would work if you're a medium skin tone, the Victorian pink if you're more fair.   It doesn't have to be Clinique, use any line you prefer. Experiment with colors in that family and with smoky plum liners - I'll bet you'll love the results.  Before doing that though - I'd consider losing the violet hair color.
