Question:

Advice on my wedding dress?

I'm not getting married until at least May of 2010. My sister and mom who live far away from me were visiting this weekend and we decided to go to Davids Bridal just for fun and check out the dresses. We had no intention of buying anything today. Well, of course, I found the PERFECT dress and its on sale. It had been a dress that I'd seen online and had always been my favorite on their website. And it looked fantastic on me. My mom and sister agreed. The people at DB informed me that the dresses do sometimes get discontinued so if I were to come in lets say 6 months or a year from now, my dress could be gone. Even though my wedding isn't for almost 2 years, should I go ahead and buy the dress? I don't want to risk it and lose my dream dress. Please help!

  1. yeah u should ..i have this friend who is getting married next year and she brought her dress last year and its in her closet. so do it

  2. I bought my dress last July becaue I thought it was my dream dress. Well Im getting married in 3 weeks and last weekend I went to Davids Bridal to get my bridesmaid dresses and saw another dress. I tried it on and fell in love all over again. So even though it was $500, I bought it........Point of the story is. You will always find a dress you want. I wish I would have waited longer to buy mine becuase now my first one is gone to waste... Your body could go through major changes (weight fluctuations, pregnancy, etc) That you dont plan on.. I would just say wait until its closer.

  3. Davids Bridal might "say" they'll work with the dress size afterwards, but all I've ever heard from them is horrible alteration and customer service stories...

    There will always be a more beautiful dress....

    But if you think this is it (You sound like your mind is 99% made up already) get it....

    Good luck!

  4. There are sooo many amazing dresses out there. 2 years is a long time and the styles change too. You might fall in love with something else by then. I would not want to wear a dress I knew was sitting in my closet for 2 years.

    You say the styles will be discontinued but then you say you could change the size if you need to. If it is discontinued they won't have it to change the size for you.

    I would wait. I am sure you will find somethiing you like closer to the wedding.

    FYI this is why you don't go looking so early.

  5. I just sure wouldn't. What you think is your dream dress now, just may not be in two years.

  6. Wait. A saleswoman's job is to MAKE THE SALE. She will tell you anything to get that accomplished. Your body can change a great deal in 2 years. You get that dress now, you going to stay on a diet for two years to maintain your exact same size? Eewww. That same style of dress will appear again, either through David's Bridal or some other company, unless it's something really unusual. Google "wedding dress" Images. Judging by what most of DB's dresses look like, it's basically an a-line gown with one or another interchangeable details. Also, when dresses are discontinued they often appear for sale on used/sample wedding dress sites within a month or so. I got this one;

    ...brand new, for $400. It was originally $1200. I heard from another woman that bought the same dress 3 years years ago for the original retail price.
