Advice on potty training?

I am just trying to get ideas on how to begin potty training my 15 month old son. I am planning on waiting until he's about 18 months.Just wondering what worked best for other Moms and what type of potty worked for your child? I am thinking of getting a seat for the toilet instead of a potty chair but wanted other opinions/ideas. Thanks for the info. :)

  1. I started mine at right this age. She's 23 month old now. After 1 month she was trained enough to sit on the big potty with the potty ring. She relieved herself when i put her there and even started warning me if she wanted to go. Now i don't know what happened to her and at 21 months she started hating the toilet and now prefers diaper. In between i started bribing her to pee...........now even that doesn't work.

Sorry wasn't a help to you. Just ranting my experience. I am going crazy here.

  2. I never used a potty chair for my kids however, I  used a kiddie seat for the toilet. Also had a child step stool so when my son peed he could reach. I would give him a mini marshmallow everytime he successfully pottied in the toilet. Good Luck.

  3. It depends on your child, my 1st daughter was toilet trained in the day at 18months and fully trained (night and day) by 2½ but she refused to use the potty seat for the toilet as she was scared of falling in lol, but once she was fully trained she would as everything seemed to change as that's when I had her baby sister and she had to be a big girl so stopped using potty - she's 5½yrs old now.

However my 2nd daughter refuses to use a potty, not once has she used it (not happy there as we even bought her a new flashy one that lights up and plays music when they go etc and she didn't use it - not even once) and will only go to the toilet on the toilet with the potty seat. lol. and only started a few months ago (she turned 3 just over a month ago). I would have both a potty and a potty toilet seat thing available since you never really know which one they will prefer.

I guess with a boy it might make things easier as they don't have to sit down everytime like we do.

    Good Luck

  4. I used the seat for the toilet...it makes them feel like a big boy. I would get him some underwear so he can get the feel of wearing them...Good Luck to you....Make sure to tell him he's a good boy that also helps
