I am going to buy a new laptop and was hoping for some advice on what specs to llo out for?

I would primarily be using my laptop for surfing the net, watching/playing/downloading multimedia such as youtube and seeqpod-so good graphics and sound whilst being quick is desirable.

The laptop i am looking into is

15.4 inch Displaywith a 1280 x 800, WXGA resolution.

1.8GHz CPU Intel Core 2 Duo processor

built in wireless networking

160 GB (Gigabytes) Hard Disk-(is this big)???

Also, my friend ha d amac that came with a remote control that was pretty cool, are these available for windows??

  1. My daughter bought a HP laptop for college last fall that had a remote control. She really likes having it.

  2. For those who are technophobes avois Windows but use the Apple Mac.

the Macbook with these specs is £699 and comes with every program you'll want but if you want to upgrade the trial version of office it will cost you £70 extra.

160GB hard disks are VERY big for laptops and not many have that most top out at 120GB.

the mac features are only on the mac.. if you want built in webcam and remote on windows you need the sony vaio's at around £1100.

Plus Macs have a second hand value of 25 to 70% depending on age, Second hand Windows units have little or no second hand value.

If you want to stick to windows as every one else says so then avoid Dell, Acer, Gateway, Matsui, Packard Bell, Comaq.

as these have much older chipsets and are unrelaible  (life maybe the year) but may will not make your requirements.

  3. try www.dell.com you can make you own laptop up yes that hard drive is big

  4. the best thing to do is to go to where u want to buy it and ask if there are any loan or rent options...harvey norman has this and allows you to have for a set amount of time but u can trade it in for a different one any time you want.

if u need the same data on all the computers...get an external hard drive.
