I filed my 1040EZ income tax return for 2007. Question 34 states "If you have filed or will file a 1040, were you eligible to file a 1040A or 1040EZ ?" I think I am eligible because I met most of the qualifications but should I answer Yes or Don't Know? Please help!

  1. The question is for you to answer ONLY "if you filed a 1040"  (which you did not).  You filed a 1040EZ and can skip this question.

If you put yes, the world isn't going to come to an end though... it will just make your application more likely to be selected for verification because they realize you aren't reading and understanding the questions correctly.

(Because on another question it asks you which tax form did you file, 1040 or 1040A or 1040EZ).

Enter inconsistent data on the fafsa and you are more likely to get selected for verification.

Family size is 1 only if you aren't required to list your parents income.  If you are, then you would list them as well and other siblings they support.  (Even if you do not live with your parents).  Also list other siblings or step siblings that are in college and required to list their income on the fafsa as well.  Do not list friends or roomates in your household size.

  2. you answer yes to that question.

You did file the EZ, therefore you were eligible.
