Do you think the rice should already be cooked before mixing and cooking all of the ingredients together? Or is the rice uncooked?

Please look at the recipe and tell me what you think.

  1. It clearly says rinse the (raw) rice add everything else and cook them all together.

  2. The recipe looks good the way it is...they want you to cook the rice with the seasonings so the rice can absorb them, that's all

  3. The amount of rice listed in the ingredients is uncooked rice.  Then you rinse it and add the other ingredients.

  4. It tells you in the cooking instructions:

Rinse the rice until the water runs clear. Put the rice in a medium saucepan with the water, cinnamon stick, cloves, bay leaves, saffron, and salt. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat to low, and cook, covered, for 15 minutes. Remove from the heat and let sit, without removing the lid, for 10 minutes. With a fork, gently stir in the butter, cashews, and raisins.

    Yield: 4 servings

That means rinse the uncooked rice first (but I never do that). Then cook it in water.  That might be whats confusing.  There just simply saying rinse the rice first. When you do that, the water doesn't look cloudy when you go to cook it regularly.  See how it says cook 15 mins as next step. All rice is cooked 14-15 mins, regardless of the manufacturer.

  5. Yes the rice must be cooked before the cashews and raisins are added. The reason being is that you want the crunch left in the cashew when you eat the dish. Also if you cook raisins to long they will become tough and less saturated. You want your raisins to be as plump as possible when it comes to any dish with raisins. The one thing I would suggest with this recipe is to soak the raisins in hot water for about 20 minutes before addin them to the rice. The best way to do this for time's sake is to soak the raisins first and then start cooking your rice so that everything will be done around the same time:) I hope this helps!
