Myself and three friends are going to Prague in October for four days. Do you have any advice on how much in GBP to take / where to go / general advice. This will be my first time in Prague, so any sensible advice would be appreciated. Cheers

  1. The Obecni Dum (Municipal Palace) has a nice tour, but don't get sucked into overpriced 'concerts' or the ones offered around the city centre. The Obecni Dum has the classiest cafe.

Also, go to the Cafe Imperial on Na Porici Street - though I understand that the tradition of throwing stale doughnuts at patrons has been discontinued. It was a gorgeous tiled place when I was there.

Parts of Prague have seriously learned the tourist trade and are more expensive than others. There is the Charles Bridge, which is most famous, and the original statues were last seen inside the wall which surrounds the 'old cathedral', not the new complex with St Vitus although they may now have been moved to the Lapidary away from the centre of the city.

  2. Agree a price with taxi-drivers before getting in.Many, not all, will try to fleece you.Two of my sons have been for long weekends and as keen photographers found it wonderful. It really is a beautiful city they said.Hope to go soon myself.

There's a free PDF downloadable guide to Prague at this Tripadvisor site.

  3. Prague has a beautiful market place in the centre with the Municipal Palace with its famous clock. It also has a fine Opera House and some interesting painting and ethnological Museums. The railway station is also interesting and nearby the famous Prague place.

  4. You'd probably be happier staying near the strip joints around Wenceslas Square. Just please don't get rat-arsed drunk and spoil it for other visitors to this beautiful city.
