  1. wax it up, hit the slopes!

  2. ok... first off you are going to need newspapers, wax, an iron, something rough, like the rough side of a sponge, and some kind of scraper. i havent bought one yet so i just get something made of plastic that is hard and has a good edge (i use a plastic ruler). you will be doing this in the laundry room so i would put a layer of newspapers down over everything that could get wax on it.

turn the iron on and wait for it to heat up. you are going to hold up the iron in one hand and the wax in the other. touch the was to the hot iron and let it drip on your board probably about every 4-6 inches. if the was smokes you have the iron too hot so just turn it down until it doesnt smoke.once you have finished dripping the wax, wait for it to dry and then get the sponge and rub it in. use your body weight to really get the wax into the board. this is the messy part. now take whatever you are using as a scraper and scrape every inch of the board until all that comes off is just a little bit more than a powder.

it is personal preferance how often you wax, but i usually just wax whenever it feels like the last coat has worn off.

you can order wax on the internet just search snowboarding wax on yahoo or if you have a zoomiez they usually have wax. when you pick out your wax make sure it is a hot wax and not a rub on.

nice vid just to make stuff clearer.

  3. Okay - first off, you need wax.  Without a snowboard shop, you might have to order on line.  There are tons of websites (link to The House is below).  Also, places like REI will carry wax during the season.  The wax ideally be matched to the temperature of the snow that you are going to ride on.  There is also soy based "natural" wax that isn't as nasty as the regular stuff.  Anyway, next, you need an iron.  Don't buy one of those "snowboard waxing iron" things - they are a ripoff.  go to a wallgreens and buy an iron for $10, and set it to a setting that makes the wax drip off the block, but not smoke.

Set the board on some boxes / books so that it is stable and flat with the bottom up, and then drip the wax onto the base.  Make sure that the wax drips are about an inch apart so that you can be sure to iron it over the whole board.  once the bottom is covered, iron the bottom so that the whole thing is covered.  Then let it set for a little while until it is cool.  Now you need a scraper - the snowboard scrapers aren't a total ripoff - you just need something with a straight plastic edge (that won't gouge your base).  Scrape the wax off with the scraper.  The last thing you need is a metal brush - pass it over the waxed surface from front to back to add little groves.  Don't push too hard.  Then you are done with the waxing.  It will make a huge mess - you get that wax stuff everywhere (including on your clothes), so I do it in my garage.  I don't know about the regular stuff, but the soy stuff does wash out.

Don't forget to tune / de-tune your edges.  To do it yourself, you need to get a kit with a stone / file and other stuff.  Check out the other link

Once you are done, get out there and rip it up...
