Question:

Advice on weaning from bottle to sippy cup?

My son is 8 months and I'd like to start weaning him from his bottle to a sippy cup. Obviously I want him completely off the bottle by the time he is a year, maybe even before that. I want it to be a smooth transition and be able to take time our, so I'm starting now. I want to know what other people to help wean their baby from bottle to sippy cup...what sippy cups did you use at first?

  1. get the sippys with a silicone spout on them...it will be more like a bottle

  2. I would start with a sippy cup that has no handles like the bottle and that has a soft tip like the bottle dose. its almost the same thing they have some that are the same material as the bottle then the next step up would be the rubber ones that are a bit harder but still soft they are very firm though. After that i would go to the very hard ones. So that would be 3 steps but pretty easy. I say no handles because if you are weaning him off of the bottle you want something similar and it will teach him from the next transition from a sippy cup to a regular cup:) Good luck :)

Oh and dont forget to get the spill proof ones. :)

  3. well we have not started yet but we bought the nuk transitional cup to help with the change because it has a soft spout like the nipple on the bottle just looks like a sippy cup spout and it has a valve on the inside so it still requires some suction to get anything out

Gerber also makes one that just says Gerber on it but it is bigger the nuk ones are the size os their 5 oz bottles and the parts are interchangeable

  4. My son was 8 months old when I started him on a cup.  Since this is the age at which you start giving them juice I used his sippy cup for juice only.  He really liked the taste of juice and caught on to drinking out of a cup almost immediatley.  Once he had the hang of drinking out of the cup I started giving him his milk in the cup and eliminated the bottle altogether.

  5. i started when my son was 6 months old and used the nuby with the handles on them. i would take 1 bottle a week and substitute a sippy cup until it was all sippy cups. around 9 months, i changed to the nuby silicone spout cups without the handles. my son does not have enough teeth to grip onto the plastic spouts. his gums just slide off of them.
