  1. All these companies make great wedges, but you notice I already pumped up the Cleveland CG series for you on a different question.

You should covertly check out his clubs and find out what he already has.  A normal iron set comes with 8 irons, 3 iron through Pitching Wedge.  The standart pitching wedge has 48 degrees of loft.  Clubs normally progress in 4 degree increments.  Look and see if he has a 52 degree "gap wedge."  This is a must nowadays, due to the fact that a standard sand wedge has a loft of 56 degrees.  Then see if he has a 60 degree lob wedge.  If he dosnt than that would be the other one to go with.  I imagine he already has a sand wedge, but if he dosnt, that is a must buy.  If he dosnt have any wedges, get him the 56 and 60 degree wedges...he can get the gap wedge later.

The amount of bounce he needs really depends on the turf conditions at his home course and his ability level.  If you have really dry turf conditions, you need wedges with low bounce. This will make it easier for the leading edge of the club to "dig" into the turf and help get the ball airborne.  Wet turf conditions need a little more bounce, which will have the opposite effect, the club wont dig as easily.  More bounce on a send wedge will make it easier to get the ball out of the bunkers.  If he is a highly skilled player, lower bounce is probably the way to go.  It makes it easier to open the club face to hit high soft "flop" shots.  More bounce makes it harder to do this.  If you can find out his handicap and tell me the turf conditions of his home course, I can give you a bit more advice.

  2. Cleveland makes the best wedges, but all the others you mention, in addition to Adams, are good weapons.

  3. Good question.  Most if not all golfers automatically have a pitching wedge...but adding at least 2 more wedges will DRASTICALLY change your game for the better.  A pitching wedge normally has around 46-48 degrees, depending on the manufacturer.

Personally, I added 2 more wedges:  a 53 degree Cleveland "gap" wedge and a Titleist Vokey 58 wedge.

And yes I chose different brands on purpose.  The Cleveland wedges tend to be slightly lighter compared to the Titleist Vokey wedges.  (actually some complain that the Vokey wedges are "too heavy" and thus have the backs of them drilled out.)  Anyways, the Cleveland is light just like my pitching wedge...but I love the "heaviness" of the Vokey which allows me to blast out of the sand and or the rough around the green.  That Vokey can blast out of anything!

I hope this helps, I figured instead of telling you what you should get.......I thought I'd tell you what I've got and why.

    Good luck with your game!

  4. by rank I would go Titleist, Mizuno then Cleveland.

  5. I would probably recommend Cleveland or Titleist.  Personally I have a pitching wedge (48 degree), a 52 degree sand wedge and a 58 lob wedge, but the course I play most has a lot of bunkers and mounds around the greens so we have to hit high shots all the time, not run up shots.

  6. Just my opinion but, Titleist Vokey 54*, 10* (or more) bounce, and 60*, 4* bounce.

This set up gives you a high loft and low loft option, and high bounce and low bounce option.

  7. Pratice with them more than you practice the driver. :D

  8. That's a very hard question to answer without some more information.   Do you have a steep swing or a shallow swing.  What do you want out of your wedges?  Do you want a wedge that will make the ball stop dead after one bounce or roll a little once it hits the green?    If you want wedge that makes the ball stop quickly then I would suggest getting a Titleist Vokey Spin Milled.  I have two of them, a sandwedge and a lob wedge.  I can stop the ball on a dime in most cases.

  9. I would go with Titleist Wedges....TGW.com has Vokey Spin Milled Tour Wedges for about 110.00 bucks.  As for what degree wedges you want is totally up to how you play the game.  The different degree of the wedge will allow you to hit the ball higher or lower in the air.  I hit a lot of low runners onto greens so I have a 52 degree, but everyone should have a 56 degree Sand Wedge and if you wanted another one I would go with a 54 degree. As for the bounce of the wedge basically means a wedge with a 14 degree bounce has more potential to knife into the ground behind the ball.  This will create more spin and less roll or release of the ball when it hits the green.  A 10 degree bounce will do the exact opposite.  This will slide under the ball more efficiently and create less spin and more roll.  If you like to bump and run the ball a lot this would be the route you would chose.  If you like to stick shots the 14 degree bounce will help you out with that.

    So to answer your question

54 degree and a 56 degree Titlesist Vokey both 14 degree bounce.
