Question:

Advice on which track event to do??

Hi :)

I am going to do track for the first time this spring instead of softball and was curious about what the best even for me would be.

I am a 5ft tall, about 110lb female who is athletic. (Also I'm a freshman this year)

This is also my first year of cross country, I finished my first 5K ever yesterday with a time of 26:26. Would that translate into being good or bad at doing a distance event in track?

Not to mention, I am a basketball player and am one of the faster girls on my team.

The only timed 100meters I have ever run was for a science project and was during softball season (which meant I wasn't in that great of shape...our team hardly conditioned at all, I hated it) and my time on that was 14.573 seconds. Is that an okay time for not being in very good shape?

Lastly, I have been told by the track coach that I have very good running form.

But I like jumping too...I'm not sure how good at that I am though...

Any advice would be super appreciated!!! =)

  1. Try them out at practice, or do different one's each meet to see which one you like the most. Do the event you enjoy the most, not the one you are the best at right now because if you don't enjoy it it will be hard to stick to it and be successful at it. If you enjoy it and you train hard you will be successful at it. I used to think I like sprinting instead of long distance, then my friend pressured me into doing cross-country in the fall, and now I'm hooked on it, and I can't imagine my life without it. So, try out different events and see what clicks.
