  1. ask you boss to give you some basic classes on the products you sell. I'm sure he will be glad to train you.

  2. Tell your boss you dilemma, tell him  you want to learn or become more familiar w/the products you sell so you can be more of help to your customers.  Of course he shld. be interested in his store being more informative & the customers getting more than just normal Yes/no answers.  You'd be "aiding" them & helping them make good choices & good decisions.  Ask him which way wld. be the easiest way for you to learn.  Let him choose for you how to learn what you'd neeed t learn.  And, good for you in wanting to learn more about your products you sell.  There sure aren't many of those type people out there.  You truly wld. be an assett to any company w/your workfor * FOOD FOR YOU!!!    Good luck...

  3. First, take notes, make a list of all the pieces of wood and study them, ask questions and with time you will become more familiar with your surroundings.  Try to communicate with your customers in a way that will give you the information that is needed for that situation. for example,  tell them you are new to this and still learning.  Most people understand this and will guide you more than you know.  So gain a little confidence its not so bad learning something new.
