  1. Don't know if this is helpful but here goes.  I manage a charity and have been involved in lots of interviewing for staff over the years. We positively discourage CV's.  We want people to apply for vacancies and fill in our application form.  There is every opportunity to do yourself credit, during the recruitment process, without sending long CV's that mean very little to an interview panel. Good luck

  2. What is a cv?  It might would help to spell words out for us that are not familiar with initials.

  3. Please don't take this the wrong way but if your CV (curriculum vitae if my spelling is correct for the person unaware of what CV stands for) is punctuated like your question then that may be part of the problem.

You really need to get several people to proof read your CV, also its quite handy to have several slightly different ones that emphasise different things.

Most personnel people/managers will only skim the pile of CVs and application forms for the first pass and maybe up to 75% will be binned at this point, so you need to make sure yours sticks out with the important parts emphasised for the type of job you are looking for.

For example, if you are applying for a retail job then make sure the retail experience is prominent.

  4. CV's should be no more than one side of an A4 page long. Keep information brief. Since age discrimination laws were brought in, you do not need to include your age. Your spelling should be spot on and all experience and skills should be in date order, starting with the newest first. Unfortunately, prospective employers are not obliged to to write to let you know, if the position has been taken, which in my opinion is bad manners if they don't. Don't be disheartened. Good luck. x
