In school, we are holding an end of the year play, and I am casting director. My best friend is auditioning for a role she says she REALLY wants. But the only thing is, she sucks at acting! I don't know what to do, I don't want to risk our friendship for a play I don't want to give away the role to someone who doesn't diserve it. Please help me!

  1. I would talk to her before the auditions and let her know that you wouldn't feel right giving her the part just based on your friendship.  You don't have to tell her she sucks at acting, but let her know that you can only give her the part if you honestly think she's the best for it, so she's going to have to prove herself at the audition like everyone else, and that you can make no guarantees.  If she's a good enough friend, she should be able to understand this.  After casting, if she didn't get the part, let her know that it wasn't personal at all, and that it was a tough decision to make.

I hope things work out ok, that's a tough spot to be in!

  2. Just tell her she did well in the audition, but was not suitable for the role.  If she asks why, try to be constructive rather than critical.  Don't say that her acting sucks, but perhaps that she didn't interpret the role as you saw it. Maybe there is a smaller role more suited to her?  She may well be upset for a while, but if she is a true friend, then she will forgive you.  Do what you think is best for the show, after all, even though you won't be performing yourself, you will still be showing your skills at casting.

  3. You are clearly a kid so you probly wont have all the say but you will have some so keep reminding your friend that she wont always get the part they want. Also tell her the truth thats always better if that doesn't work you can allways say that you can't get her in it's what everyone else wants.

  4. just tell your friend that she sucks lol no. but try to help her develop her acting skills by doing improv or some thing... or you can have a majority vote so it wont seem like its your fault that she didnt get the part.
