I have a type of cypress tree which has developed dead brown areas of foliage. Looking around I have noticed others with similar afflications. Is there a remedy? Will they recover?

  1. Cypress aphid is rife at the minute.

    Bugclear will do the trick.

Run conifer aphid through google for more info.

  2. it sounds like it could be twig and needle blight.  the only thing i know that could help is liquid copper fungicide.

  3. If you are in the UK there is currently a plague of cypress aphids affect many cypress trees across the country. In fact it's all across the world. You'll need to examine the twigs of the brown branches to look for aphids like these

Some sort of pesticide is probably the best answer. If you can't find any then maybe the first answer is correct.

  4. May be spider mites, they damage plants by feeding on the leaves, the suck out the sap and chlorophyll(on conifers like arborvitae, cypress..juniper..pines and spruce). This results in the foliage looking..speckled..yellow or bronze cast or brown. Using a piece of white paper,  shake the foliage over it..mites can usually be seen crawling around. ( put on your glasses)Plants that are drought stressed are more susceptible and do not over fertilize plants that have the mite problem especially heavy amounts of nitrogen.Regular insecticides do no control spider mites, a miticide is needed. hope this helps
