Question:

Advice to a nervous international student going to the UK for university?

Hi i'm an chinese student that plans to go to the UK to study in university (either Leeds or Liverpool uni). The thing is, I'm real nervous because i've never been there before and I think it'd be made even more awkward by the fact that i'll be a minority chinese student where cultures will be different from my more laid back conservative nature. I thus worry i won't be able to make many friends or settle.

Please help by giving me any good advice?

  1. Don't worry! You'll find that there will be lots of other students, from China and elsewhere going through the same.

Join the Student Chinese Association if there is one and make friends- but also get involved in socialising with the other students you live beside, and join some clubs.

It takes a little effort to make friends- but everyone else is in the same boat- just say hello and smile and you'll get far!

    Enjoy yourself!
