Advice to prepare for volleyball try-outs?

I am a incoming freshman at my high-school. At my highschool, there are a freshman team, JV and varsity. I am told the school i come from is the only school that works on volleyball a lot, compared to the other 2 schools. I am decent at volleyball but i really want to stand out at the practices. There are conditioning/weight training and agility/open play pre-season practices that i plan to attend. (real practices start august 18th) is there anything you know that could help me at try-outs? thanks =)

  1. As far as skills, youre on your own but theres alot you can do at tryouts. You have to look like you know what youre doing (sport shirt, spandex, kneepads-or no kneepads if you want to  look like you "embrace the pain", ankle guards if you use them, volleyball shoes, etc.). But the most important thing is to have a good attitude, hi-fiving teamates and saying things like nice pass or nice hit, and to be really nice to the coaches. saying thank you to all the coaches at the end helps, and if they pull you aside at tryouts to help you if youre doing something wrong, you have to ask questions, and try really hard to do wat they say even if its different than what you've learned, and make sure to thank them. they will pick up your ability to learn quickly. also, hussle everywhere you go. when the coach calls you in, after water breaks, during drills, you should always be in at least a light jog. and never complain about "my _ hurts!" unless you are in serious serious pain. make an effort to llearn the other girls names if you dont know anyonetoo.

another thing you can do to impress the coaches is when everyone puts their hands in at the end to say your school's name, call it out (1...2...3...panthers! for example) this shows that youre a leader.

and just practice your skills. wall sets, baby sets, sets with waterpolo balls, aiming sets at spots on a wall, hitting spikes at the base of the wall so it bounces back and you can hit it again, and just passing the ball around keep you in top condition.

  2. Just be confident and believe in yourself. If you know you're good, show it!!  Make sure you try your best at all times, because even if you may not think someone's watching you they are. Show the coaches you're serious about volleyball. Remember the good techniques you may have learned and apply them well. Good Luck=)

  3. do a camp, and practice like every day, and try out for a club...

  4. talk a lot in volleyball. encourage other girls, if somebody does a good pass, say "nice pass" call what it is like a down, tip, free. let people hear you. don't say oh, i'm not very good at this. work as hard as you possibly can and go for every single ball coming for you and don't act intimidated. basically, i think that talking a lot really makes you stand out, because it shows that you really know what you're doing. just let everybody notice you. make everytime you touch the ball, amazing..and GOOD LUCK! :]
