Advices for trip in Yucatan for Christmas?

We will be in Yucatan in Christmas break for 8 days, we are not sure how many nights to spend in which city. Can someone give good tips about traveling in Yucatan peninsula.

Which cities are must and how many nights to sped on each??

Yucatan is cool. You are better off looking at the beaches South of Cancun. That is kind of a Miami Beach South. Do yourself a favor and buy a definitive book from Amazon.com about 'The Mexican Riviera'. Any action at all will be found in Cancun, true, but the string of beaches running south are laid back, cool, and attract people like yourself. And don't forget the interior. Impressive Mayan ruins. Rent a car.

If you are looking for beach then the first answer is good. (except that Mexican Riviera is typically west coast, he means Mayan Riviera).

If you are looking for Colonial Cities than Merida, Valladolid and Itzamal are good. I haven't personally made it to Campeche yet but that's another city that you might want to check out.

If you are looking for Mayan sites in the Yucatan then you'll want to see Uxmal (see Kaba, Labna and Sayil too if you have time and you are in the Uxmal area) & Chichen Itza. Also, you find yourself near Tulum, Coba, Ek Balam or Dzibilchaltun they are worth a visit too but if you are not totally into ruins then if you just did Uxmal and Chichen Itza that would be good.

There's also many cenotes, see one of those if you have a chance. Hacenda's are cool too, you can stay at some that have been turned into luxury hotels or you can visit some that have not been restored. There's bird watching and eco tourism to, look for things around Holbox for that stuff.

You can do lots or just hang out on the beaches whatever you want. however, if it's cultural stuff you are looking for I would suggest spending a few nights in Merida, there is lots to see and do there.
