Hi Everyone,

I am 23yrs old and have been trying to conceive for a while now since coming of the Depo shot.

After trying for a while I finally went to a specialist today who diagnosed me with PCO. He said that he dont think I have the syndrome as I have no symptoms. I could see the Cysts on the ovaries. He said that he I dont think I ovulate, or I ovulate late, which I find weird as I have a regular cycle of 30day and the period is not light!! Which brings me to my 1st Q Can you have regular periods and not have ovulated?

I have been given Clomid to help me to conceive I have to start on my next cycle at 50mg. What is the success rate of conceiving whilst taking Clomid?

What is the difference between PCO and PCOS?

Is PCO a genetic thing or do you think the DEPO shot could be a causing factor as this is what stopped my period in the first place?

Any advice or answers would be lovely.

Baby dust to you all x

  1. sorry i don't really know about the pco thing

I'm 27 was on depo for about 8 yrs never had a period

came of it in Jan was given the pill for 3 months by family planning centre

i had my first smear (which was fine )

and have been ttc since April now .

i started getting regular bleeds every 28days when i started on the pill (not sure if its right to call them periods)

until the last 2 month when it changed to 24 days (don't know why )

i have been doing ovulation strip tests for the last three month and they've all been negative . so you can have periods /bleeds with out ovulating.

how long were you trying before they gave you clomid and was it hard to get?

any tips or advise for someone who has been on depo would be appreciated

good look to both of us

  2. You can have a 28 day cycle and still not ovulate.  Period and ovulation should go together but don't always.

PCO/PCOS are both caused by insulin resistance and you have to learn to basically think of yourself as more of a diabetic and eat as such, watching your carb intake.  PCO will cause irregular cycles and cysts on your ovaries and the cysts are caused by your egg follicles forming into cysts instead of dropping/ovulating as they should. I have PCOS and have all the symptoms basically and the one thing that got the diagnosis first was the fact that they did 2 ultrasounds 3 months apart and both showed my ovaries were both covered with cysts and around the time I should have been ovulating I had no mature follicles at all.

  3. I've never heard of pcos not being syndrome...weird...but basically, you can have reg. periods with pcos it just means ur eggs are fertile. Its possible to get preggo with pcos but its hard to do so. I've heard many good things about Clomid and usually women get preggo within the first 3 months of taking it. I dont think its caused from the depo shot. and yes, u can have a period without ovulating (well basically ur not fertile when u ovulate)
