Advise for electric oven?

Hi. I currently have a gas range in my kitchen and want to change it for a single electric oven. The trouble is, I only have normal electricity supply in the kitchen, (.e. 13 amp, I think) so I am restricted to an oven which can run on a normal supply. I haved asked john lewis and currys, but they give conflicting advise about which models I can have. Curry's said only the really low price manufactures do one. Any ideas about which model is the best one??

  1. If it is a single built under oven it will work fine on a 13 amp fuse as they only pull about 2.5 kw,and given that te grill and oven cannot normally be used togeher then the actual consumption will be even less (diversity).

If the oven does not come with any flex, then you will need 1.5mm heat resistant flex which can be bought off the roll at b&q etc.

Any oven with a rating of over 3kw would need a higher rated circuit as 1kw is approx 4 amps as a rough guide.

  2. Hi,

I'd never heard of a 13 amp oven (only ever known of having them connected to a 30 amp supply) so just tried a search and did come up with a couple of results, surprisingly!

Try a search for 13 amp oven yourself and see what you find.  The first two that my search returned were an Indesit and a Hotpoint from Currys but these are only ovens, they don't include hotplates.

  3. A gas range is much more efficient so why change to electric , besides you will need 220v power to meet the demand of an oven and range.

  4. If it's just a single oven & not an oven/hob then Curry,s are wrong,a single oven will run of a 30 amp ring main either plugged in or connected to a SFC unit. Because at any one time they only consume less then 13 amps

  5. Breakers are in 10 amp increments(15,20,30,40,50) And wire to match(14ga,12ga,10ga,8ga,6ga) the only oven would be a toaster oven.Wall outlets usually 15amp or 20amp 120v.A normal stove is 240V, 50A,on 6ga wire
