I'm about to tile my kitchen floor and there seems to be a major problem. The concrete floor is flush level with my UPVC doors in the kitchen. If I put the tiles down the doors will not open or close. I dont think I can refit the doors higher.

What can i do???? I dont want to have to chip the concrete floor away as this seems too much of a hard job.

Any advise..pls Help

  1. You have to shorten the doors, taking whatever is needed off the bottom.  It's not unusual, it has to be done fairly often when carpet or tile is put in a room that that didn't have it before.  If you don't have a planer, then you can do it with a circular saw and a straight edge clamped to the door so your cut is straight.  Use a fine-toothed finishing blade to make the cut to minimize chipping.

  2. Just cut off the bottom of the door. Remove the door, make a line where the cut needs to be, clamp a straightedge to it, and cut it off with a circular saw.

Someone said you could not do this with a hollow-core or metal door. I disagree. With a hollow core door, you probably won't be cutting all the way through the solid bottom that hollow doors have. If so, you'll just have to glue part of it back into the hollow bottom for stability.

For a metal door, just use a metal-cutting blade - that's what they're made for...

    Wear your safety glasses.

  3. The easiest solution is to remove the door and plane the bottom so it's no longer flush.

  4. you are right you have a problem..

unfortunately it is one way or the other ..

I would suggest that lifting the door (and the whole frame with it) is the lesser of the two evils..

you can finish the floor tiling then reset the frame to suit so that the door clears

  5. I agree with your first answer but...if the door is hollow core or metal this will not be possible. You may have to purchase a different door that can be cut down.
