Hi, my son is 14 months old i feed him 1 1/2 weetabix for breakfast - no sugar but occasionally with a little amount of honey for flavour.

lunch is spagetti hoops, or tuna and sweetcorn pasta. And then a yogurt or fruit

dinner is something like baked beans and waffles - i always buy the low sodium ones and never put salt on anything then he has a yogurt or fruit.

Is this food ok for him?

Also he's 14 months old but hasnt said a word yet, he babbles and chatters away in baby talk but hasnt said yes, no, mummy, daddy etc.

He understands the word "No" and "come back" and recognises all the songs to his faveourate cartoons on cbeebies though.

He copys my fascial expressions and noises like "oh" or if i sniff he sniffs, if i cough he pretends to cough etc.

He still cant walk but he can stand unaided and does walk along holding onto things.

He doesnt wave goodbye but only because me or my boyfriend dont actually wave goodbye so he doesnt know to do it so i think we will have to start doing it.

I just want to check he's developing normally and his food is ok for him

Im a first time mum, i know all children develop at different rates but just want reasurrance.

Thanks :)

  1. Sounds OK to me! I think he is doing fine - his development sounds normal and some babies just start to say words a bit later than others.  It doesn't mean anything is wrong; he is probably just listening all the time so he can store up more words in his head!  Have you tried him with avocado?  My daughter loves it and it's very good for them!

  2. i would not worry about the walking or talking part  i think if he sees u waving  bye then he will pick up on it and the food u can give him hot dogs meats  he can eat any thing u eat as long as its in small bites i have a 12 month old and he eats every thing he can get his hands on

  3. The not talking very much shouldn't be concerning. I wasnt talking until i was 2. The food you are giving him sounds pretty good. I babysit my 2 year old cousin, and from what he eats, it sounds pretty normal. He really like tofu, so i would suggest that. I dont know. Its healthy and he loves it.  Sounds like your doing good.

  4. you've got an inteligent little boy there if he can understand you and can sort shapes etc. there is no problems with his intelligence. don't worry some babies dont talk until 2 my eldest son now 23 months didnt talk until 20 months and now he wont stop!! as for the food you can give your son anything to eat at this stage after 1 years of age it's ok to give baby what your eating. your making healthy choices which is fantastic but dont limit yourself experiment more with meats because after 6 months babies iron suppply runs out so you have to give them plenty of food high in iron to keep them healthy. offer him everything and let him experiment even with things you might never eat yourself. this will give him a wider variety of tastes which will help him not to become a fussy eater. he's an intelligent little boy your blessed. also try pointing out things and naming them this will encourage him to repeat you but dont use huge sentences just single words so he wont become to confused. hope this helps.mom of 2 boys 23 months and 8 months

  5. My sons nearly 14 months and does not say any proper words but like your son he babbles a lot. Don't worry about it he's just getting used to making different sounds just now and will put them together eventually. If I whistle he tries to copy and he just ends up spluttering everywhere, it's the cutest thing ever.

Sounds like he may walk soon. Remember all babies are different. One of my girls walked the week after she was one and the other walked at 17 months. You can't predict these things he'll do it when he's ready.

As for the food, my son eats pretty much the same as the rest off us, just cut up smaller. It's good that you're son eats plenty of fruit but trying encouraging more vegetables like carrot sticks which he can hold himself. Also try giving him fingers of wholemeal bread and butter my son loves this and if you introduce him to healthy foods this early he should keep a good diet for life. Having said this I must admit he also enjoys the odd biscuit and loves chips too.

  6. I think you need to include a range of fresh veg and meat mashed up and  speak to your health visitor for advice about his talking because I am a little cocerned he isn't saying much although my son didn't say a word until he was 18 month old   He was tongue tied a condition where the tongue is anchored to the bottom og the mouch nothing serious but it restricts talking a lot and a very simple medical procedure rectifies it now he never stops talking your son  seems to be developing normally in all other ways  and the fact you are concerned about his development shows you are responsible caring parents

good luck and enjoy him while he is little (mine are 14 and 9 )

  7. You should mash up some vegetable's and mix it with his food as well.

Try different veggies. My son is 13 months and mumbles as well. His first word was "dada" at about 10 months. then came "mum ma" short after. Over all, Your son sounds like he is getting a good amount and variety of good foods. I think your doing good. Just try more veggies. My son loves them and he loves to eat healthy table food. About the walking, My son can stand on his own but has not taken his baby steps yet. Just like your son, My son holds on to couches etc.. to walk along. Some times he lets go and doesn't notice he's standing by him self, when he does, he falls on his butt. Then will look up at you as if "What just happened?". All is well though. Your doing good.
