  1. Many parents need an advocant to attend meetings with regarding the child.  And advocant can sometimes think of questions to ask that the parents may not think about and bring up points.  It is a field I think is worth looking into.


  2. It is funny, but kids with autism disorder syndrome often have advocates from groups like Autism Speaks. However milder disabilities such as specific learning disability get no advocacy. While a class for kids with autism may have 9 children with two assistants, you will find SLD classes with15-20 kids with no assistants at all. Vastly ignored as a group, these kids end up being our criminals because they are unsuccessful and don't get enough support. This is a very sad situation with one group getting all the advocacy, while a huge group goes without much help at all.
