Advocate Ishmael Semenya chosen to clean up Cricket South Africa (CSA) after Nyoka’s reinstatement as president
Advocate Ishmael Semenya has been assigned the task leading the investigation into the Cricket South Africa scandal.
The board meeting of Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 on Wednesday concluded with the decision of building a task team headed by Semenya. The task team will also have forensic auditors on-board.
"It was resolved to institute an external investigation including a forensic audit in relation to the mandate given to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 Review Committee," Cricket South Africa revealed in a statement after the board of directors met in Johannesburg last week.
The commission chaired by Semenya will look into the matter of the alleged corruption of R68 million as claimed by Mtutuzeli Nyoka, the Cricket South Africa President.
Nyoka was fired from his position in February, 2011 but was reinstated by the cricket board after a court judgement regarding his unlawful dismissal was decreed in his favour.
"Dr Nyoka has been reinstated as president and chair of the board of directors with immediate effect,” declared CSA, in line with the ruling of the South Gauteng High Court.
Sparks started to fly between Nyoka and the cricket board two months ago following Nyoka’s demand of a probe into the matter of the R4.7 million bonus, awarded to Chief Executive Gerald Majola and the rest of the staff members.
The cricket board chose to pass a vote of no confidence in Nyoka’s presidency, which has now been declared null and void.
The senior members of the CSA workforce were granted bonuses for the Champions Trophy and Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament hosted by South Africa in 2009.
Gerald Majola and Nyoka have decided to work together and leave the bitter past behind, citing the progress of the sport in South Africa.
Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula did not address media but his spokesperson offered comments about the development.
"The minister is happy with the progress made in cricket. Cricket South Africa board members have heeded his call to meet with Dr Nyoka and reinstate him," revealed Media Officer Paena Galane.
