Question:

Aerodynamics! what is it? first most helpful 10 point!?

hi everyone, so i have to write an essay about aerodynamics...

but for me, i have no idea what it is?

i just kinda know its related to airplane.. cars... something to do with air resistance im guessing?

if anyone can help me that would be great. first one who provide most helpful info gets 10 point = ]

  2. You are correct in your thinking.

    Aerodynamics is the study and design of making objects less resistant to moving air (wind, traveling on a road, or in flying).

    When an object moves through air, or when wind blows across an object, the air is displaced and most of the time on the far side of the object the air becomes turbulent -- it doesn't move smoothly.

    Turbulence represents wasted energy.  If the airflow around an object can be made smoother and less turbulent, then energy will be saved.

    In the case of an airplane, that saved energy means the difference between actually flying, or not.

    In the case of a formula-1 race car, that saved energy might mean the difference between winning the race at 201.2 mph, versus the 2nd place finisher at 201.1 mph.
