I want to be an Aerospace Engineer when I grow up.

I got straight A's the whole year on science and math.

My question is am I heading the right path?

And also what is the average salary of one?

  1. I doubt an ASE would start anywhere near 70k with a BS degree, but a number around 60k is probably not unreasonable with good grades.

This salary will go up very quickly for the first few years, too.  To give you an idea of your career long prospects in terms of salary, the median income of an Aerospace Engineer is $90,930 in the U.S. according to the U.S. BLS.

You are certainly on the right path if you excel in science and math.  One word of advice would be to go above and beyond the requirements of your teachers (I'm assuming you are in high school).  Read your textbooks, and really understand the phenomena you are learning.  It is very easy to coast through high school and realize in college you are ill prepared for an engineering curriculum.  You'll have a really busy first couple of years playing catch up.

Remember, in high school your peers in math and science are mostly not going to be engineers.  In college, everyone is good at math and science.

I don't mean to go on and on, but these are things I wish someone had told me when I was in high school.

  2. you're on the right path. focus on science and math, because math will be a huge challenge in college. i hate calculus and it was my weak point, so i'm happy being an electronic technician. i'm making 55k a year, so i'm assuming that an aerospace eng. in the private sector is starting out with 70k a year. it would be in your best interest to look into embry riddle or a military acadamy.

remember, it's best do pick a career that you enjoy over the income you will earn from it. nothing sucks more than career field that you hate...even money really can't make the difference.
