Aesop's Fables grabs Prix Jean Prat glory at Chantilly
Aesop's Fables kept his good Chantilly record intact, and bagged the top prize in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat, held on Sunday, July 1st.
The 3-year-old has run twice at Chantilly, emerging triumphant on both occasions. He won the Prix D'Halatte at this track last season.
The A. Fabre trained stepped into the big battle after a couple of unlucky outings lately. Even though there were plenty of dangerous runners in the opposition, Aesop's Fables did not let anyone spoil his party.
He settled in fourth early on, and despite the fact the rider, Maxime Guyon, tried a lot, the runner gave no immediate response in the middle stages of the race.
The dashing colt got his act together just a moment before the final furlong, and quickened well inside the final 110 yards.
The Godolphin owned established his dominance in the final 50 yards, and ran on well to seize the first place by a length’s distance.
Gregorian, was equally brilliant in the final moments, but failed to catch the leading runner. As a result, he narrowly missed the first prize worth £190,466.67.
Although, John Gosden’s charge could not catch the champion, he did well to ensure the runner-up spot by a couple of lengths.
Coup De Theatre, was third on the table. P. Van De Poele’s French charge was lucky to grab the third position, as Xanadou fell short only by a head’s distance.
It was a disappointing outcome for French Fifteen, who was declared the hot favourite ahead of the race. The 13 to 8 favourite was never a threat to the leaders and as a result, finished seventh on the table.
Diana Cooper, who is spokesperson for Godolphin, said on Aesop's Fables’ success: “Everything went well for Aesop's Fables in the race and he loved the trip. He is improving and it was great to win a Group One. Plans will be discussed by Sheikh Mohammed and Simon Crisford (Godolphin racing manager)."
Maxime Guyon was also delighted to ride the American colt to an easy triumph. He stated after the race: "Aesop's Fables has come on a lot from his last run. He travelled well and quickened nicely at the finish."
