Ibrahim Afellay’s agent has revealed that the Dutchman may end up on loan in the EPL, with offers coming in from Liverpool and Arsenal.
The Dutch Midfielder didn’t get to see much game time due to an injury in September last year, with a long recovery period of over 7 months.
In April 2012 he stated he was fit to play again, and impressed everyone despite his long break from the game.
However, he was sidelined for Barcelona’s match against Osasuna this past weekend.
With Fabregas, Xavi and Iniesta playing in midfield it seems that Afellay has little chance of seeing much game time during his peak years.
Wasting his time on the bench is not exactly what he was planning when he went through more than seven months worth of recovery. Eager to get more first-team time, he expressed his desire for a short-term transfer.
Arsene Wenger has already expressed his admiration of the Dutchman and he seems to be ready to take him on for a season’s loan. However, there have been no negotiations just yet.
Liverpool have also been showing some interest. After signing Nuri Sahin on loan from Real Madrid, it seems that another La Liga player may also never walk alone for one year.
According to Spanish newspaper, El Mundo Deportivo, another British team is also interested; however, El Mundo Deportivo is yet to disclose the team. Rumours suggest that Spurs, who have been said to be monitoring Afellay, are now going to try and
buy him, especially with their star player, Luka Modric, leaving for Real Madrid.
All three of these teams could use the Dutchman in their ranks. With Arsenal losing Van Persie and coming in third place last season, maybe Afellay is the answer to their finishing problems.
On the other hand, the Spurs came in 4th and they may just need a small push to finish in the top two positions. However, Liverpool need him more than ever, especially after finishing 8th in the last season.
British Teams are not the only interested parties, Italian football clubs Inter Milan and AC Milan are also rumoured to be interested in Afellay.
Wherever he may end up going on loan to, it is clear that the Dutchman is in demand, and he will make a great impact with whatever team he may be set up with.
